Nigeria Will Be a Superpower: How It Could Happen

Nigeria is a country that has been in the news for all of the wrong reasons. Whether it's Boko Haram, or corruption, Nigeria just can't get out of the headlines. However there is another side to this story and one that could be life changing for millions of people living in Nigeria. The possibilities are endless but here are some examples:

Nigeria will become an economic superpower in Africa because they have large amounts of oil reserves which makes them very rich. They also have a large population meaning more consumers who can buy their own products and services making them richer in terms of money as well as resources like food and water (which is becoming rarer).

Nigerians will have more money.

 

Having more money will allow them to have more stuff. Like every nation there will be consumerism, but Nigerians will be the most serious consumers of goods and services. The result of this will mean that they can afford to have nicer things, healthier food, longer lives, more medical insurance, cleaner air and water and so on.

 

1 Corinthians 6:20 says "Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you do not have. Buy what you need, not what you want". So instead of being annoyed by the poverty in Nigeria, try being more grateful for what you do have instead. It's not a bad thing to want nicer things, but it is a good thing to appreciate what you have already.

 

Nigeria's resources

Nigeria will become a superpower because of the kind of technology they will be able to utilise and the way their citizens will live. They will most likely become a leader in robotics and artificial intelligence. With these new technologies there will be more economical ways of doing things. This means more jobs and possibly fewer jobs because machines can do more things. Technology will also lead to better health as new technologies will make healthcare more efficient and will also allow it to be more affordable. All in all, Nigeria is going to have a bright future with the power of technology and people who can and will innovate.

Nigeria is really in need of an education system overhaul.

 

Nigerian consumers

will be able to afford luxury cars, mobile phones, high-end clothing, and so on. There will be a revolution in the way Nigerians buy and buy products from within the country and from around the world and this will help grow their economy.

 

Nigerian Consumers will be able to become wealthier which will make the country prosper. This will give them more money to spend so that they can buy more things so that they can get wealthier.

 

This could lead to a better country and more opportunities for its people.

 

Nigerian Women will become the most powerful women in the world. For instance, they are very good at business and are using this to help develop their economy.

Nigeria is the most populated country in Africa with nearly 190 million people. The population is so huge and the country is so vast and spread out that it is very hard to get work done in just one state.

 

The Bad

Let's face it, Nigeria is one of the most corrupt countries in the world. Corruption is almost an absolute given in Nigeria but, according to some estimates, about 60% of their budget is stolen by politicians and the military. That amounts to about $40 billion every year. When you realise that this is the equivalent to the yearly revenues of the top five oil companies combined, it should be no surprise that Nigeria is one of the poorest countries in the world. The implications of the already abundant oil resources in Nigeria is that it has the potential to be the next super-power. It may not be that way for very long but it certainly is within the realms of possibility. This has a significant impact on everything from GDP, technology and finance to population and refugees.

 

Nigeria has a large population of poor people

Despite the riches it holds, Nigeria is plagued by poverty. There are over 200 million Nigerians living below the poverty line with 30% of these living below the international poverty line of $1.90 per day. In the short term, this money will only lead to more corruption and poverty. However, by changing this poverty into something better (like getting rid of the diseases in the country) and ensuring a future for all Nigerians, it can change the country and could be a beacon of light for the rest of Africa.

Nigeria has many natural disasters

These disasters are set to increase in the near future. They are always caused by disasters that the country hasn't planned for and these ones are mostly caused by the weather and its frequency. This means that as a country the government should start thinking about how to mitigate these disasters.

 

Disasters like drought will come to a country often because of a weather system that the country hasn't been able to avoid which means that they will be able to prepare for it. These weather events are dangerous for people because they will cause a scarcity of water, food, food security and will destroy the infrastructure of the country.

 

For example, in 2014 Nigeria suffered its worst drought in over 50 years with many parts of the country in chaos.

 

Conclusion

There are so many things to say about Nigeria but the biggest thing to remember is that it is not what you think. I know a lot of people saying Nigeria will become the richest country on earth because they have lots of oil reserves. However, let's look at some other countries that do have lots of oil: Qatar, Angola, Iraq, UAE, Saudi Arabia and US (and that is just a handful). That is, all of these countries had oil before but none of them could actually sustain it and even for a period of time. Why is that? We are humans, the one thing we lack the most is life and resources. Despite all of this Nigeria has come a long way and continues to do so by overcoming numerous obstacles.
