Racer Lewis Hamilton Faces Racial Abuse On Social Media

Lewis Hamilton was the victim of numerous racially charged attacks during, and after his controversial win in the British Grand Prix, as announced by a joint statement by Formula One, the FIA and his Mercedes team.

The seven-time champion won a race that saw title holder Max Verstappen, Red Bull driver, lose the race after hitting a wall.

Hamilton was hit by a 10 second punishment yet proceeded to dominate the race, closing the gap, and wining in only 8 points.

Formula 1 and other overseeing bodies have joined to show their support for Lewis Hamilton after the online bigoted maltreatment the Mercedes driver got in the wake of the British GP.

Red Bull, whose driver Max Verstappen smashed out of Sunday's race after a lap-one impact with Hamilton, said they were "disgsuted and and saddened" by the resulting abused focused on the seven-time best on the world.

Bigoted messages including 'monkey emoticons' and other racial slurs were sent as comments to a post by the Mercedes team on Instagram observing Hamilton's Silverstone achievement.

Hamilton won his home Silverstone race for a record-broadening eighth time in spite of gathering a 10-second punishment for the lap-one impact with Verstappen, his title rival.
