Businessman Sentenced To 30 Months For Calling Gov Fintiri ‘Father Of All Thieves’

 

A Yola Chief Magistrate Court II, managed by Magistrate Japhet Basani, has convicted and sentensed a Numan-based businessman, Ali Yakubu Numan, to a two and a half year prison term for calling Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri 'Father of all thieves.’

Numan was sentenced on Wednesday to two-year prison term with choice of N50,000 fine for utilizing defamatory language against Fintiri. He was additionally sentenced to half year detainment without alternative of fine for disturbance of public peace.

The businessman, who portrayed Governor Fintiri as A thief and father of all thieves,’ was remanded  in jail  following his arraignment for defamation by the Attorney General of Adamawa State. 

In administering looking into the issue on Wednesday, Magistrate Basani said that the court showed up at the decision after it saw the man as guilty of the two charges brought against him by the arraignment. 

Numan had, on the11th, twelfth, thirteenth, seventeenth, twentieth and 29th July 2021, composed and distributed  insulting proclamations in Hausa and Fulfulde dialects on his Facebook page against the governor.

He portrayed Governor Fintiri in the publication as "a thief and father of all thieves in Nigeria" who took indomie, spaghetti and many billions of naira from state coffers.
