Silver is traded on the world market in US dollars per troy ounce (one troy ounce is about 31.1 grams). To get the naira price we take that dollar figure and multiply by the live dollar-to-naira rate. So the naira price moves whenever either the global silver price or the exchange rate moves.
Per gram = (spot price in USD per ounce ÷ 31.1) × the current USD→NGN rate. Purity matters: fine metal is near 100%, while jewellery and alloys are worth their purity share of the pure price.
Spot vs local price. The figure here is the international spot value. A Lagos dealer or jeweller quotes a premium above spot for refining, craftsmanship, margin and risk — so a retail price per gram sits higher than the number above. Use this as the fair baseline, then negotiate.
