Laptop Prices in Nigeria and the Dollar Factor

Why the naira price moves
Laptops are priced globally in dollars. A retailer pays the dollar cost, converts at the exchange rate (often the parallel rate, not the official rate), adds duty, shipping and a margin. When the naira weakens, the shelf price rises even if the dollar price is unchanged — the same dynamic as iPhone prices and console prices.
How to buy without overpaying
- Check the current dollar price and convert at the live USD to Naira rate to sense-check the naira quote.
- Compare sellers — margins on imported electronics vary widely.
- Buying from abroad yourself? Factor shipping, duty and a dollar card to pay in dollars.
