How to Open a Domiciliary Account at UBA: Documents, Steps and Rates

13 October 2026 - Naira Briefing

A UBA domiciliary account lets you hold and move dollars, pounds or euros from one of Nigeria’s largest banks — useful if you receive from abroad, pay suppliers or want to save in hard currency. The mechanics are much like any other bank’s, so this slots alongside our domiciliary account guide.

What you need

  • A valid ID and your BVN.
  • Proof of address (a recent utility bill) and passport photos.
  • An existing UBA relationship helps but is not always required.

Funding, withdrawals and the rate

You can fund a dom account by inward transfer from abroad or by paying in cash FX, subject to the bank’s limits. When you convert naira in or dollars out, the rate the bank uses decides how much you actually get — the dom account itself does not set the rate. Compare it against the live USD to Naira rate before moving a large sum.
