How to Open a Domiciliary Account at Access Bank, Step by Step

12 October 2026 - Naira Briefing

A domiciliary (“dom”) account at Access Bank lets you hold and transact in dollars, pounds or euros — useful for receiving foreign payments, paying abroad, or saving in a stronger currency. Here’s how to open one, with the same logic applying at most Nigerian banks.

What you need

  • A valid ID (international passport, driver’s licence or national ID) and your BVN.
  • Proof of address (a recent utility bill) and passport photos.
  • An existing Access account helps but isn’t essential.

The steps

  • Apply through the Access app, internet banking or a branch; choose the currency (USD/GBP/EUR).
  • Complete the account-opening form and submit your documents and BVN.
  • Fund the account with genuine foreign currency — a transfer in, or cash deposit where allowed.

Using it well

Pair it with a dollar card for online spending, and convert the balance to naira at the live USD to Naira rate rather than a weak desk rate. For the full picture and comparison, see our dom account guide and the GTBank steps.
