How to Transfer Money Between Nigerian Banks (GTBank, Kuda, Opay, PalmPay)

11 October 2026 - Naira Briefing

Moving money between Nigerian banks and fintech apps — GTBank, Access, Zenith, UBA, and the newer wallets Kuda, Opay and PalmPay — runs on the same instant-transfer rails (NIP). The steps are nearly identical wherever you bank.

The basic steps

  • Open your bank app or dial your bank’s USSD code.
  • Choose Transfer, then select the recipient’s bank from the list.
  • Enter the 10-digit account number — the recipient’s name should appear to confirm.
  • Enter the amount, add a narration, and authorise with your PIN or token.

Limits and charges

Daily limits depend on your account tier and whether you’ve completed full KYC. Transfers attract a small electronic-transfer levy on amounts from ₦10,000, plus any bank fee. Fintech wallets like Kuda and Opay often offer a number of free transfers, which is why many people route everyday payments through them.

When a transfer fails or is delayed

If money leaves your account but doesn’t arrive, it is almost always reversed automatically within minutes to 24 hours. Keep the transaction reference, don’t resend immediately, and contact your bank if it isn’t resolved the next business day.
