How to Get a Bank Statement for a Visa Application in Nigeria
12 October 2026 - Naira BriefingA clean, convincing bank statement is one of the most common reasons a visa is approved or refused. For Nigerian applicants, knowing exactly what embassies look for — and how to present it — matters as much as the balance itself.

What the statement needs to show
- A stamped, bank-issued statement covering the period the embassy requests (often 3–6 months).
- A steady history, not a single large deposit that appears days before you apply.
- A reference letter from the bank confirming the account and standing, where required.
Getting it from your bank
Request the statement through your bank’s app or branch and ask for it stamped; for some embassies an e-statement with a verification code is accepted. Allow a few days. If you are also buying travel allowance, see Form A, PTA and BTA.
A note on funding
Embassies look for genuine funds. Don’t inflate a balance artificially — it is easy to spot and risky. If you are converting savings to show funds or to pay fees, do it transparently at the live USD to Naira rate.
